Best WordPress Web Hosting Company for 2019

I believe that WordPress is the best platform to build your website on.  Currently, nearly 30% of all websites are built on the WordPress platform, and that includes the full gamut of websites from small business websites to Fortune 500 company websites. Every year, bloggers and consultants rate what they feel at the best WordPress web hosting companies, and I want to Best WordPress Web Hosting Companyshare my WordPress web hosting company recommendations for 2019.

When it comes to hosting your WordPress website there are several factors you want to consider. Here are the most crucial ones:

  • Security. Sadly, not all WordPress web hosts put security as a high priority. This means that using certain web hosts can leave your website more vulnerable to attacks.
  • Uptime. It’s crucial that your website stays online for several reasons. First, you want your visitors to have a great user experience, but secondly, your website can lose favor with Google and the other search engines if it’s not online when they visit.
  • Speed.  Website load speed is a factor in keeping people on the site so Google also figures load time into its ranking algorithm.
  • Bandwidth. This is the rate at which your hosting company will allow concurrent connections without the website going down. If you are on a small shared web hosting plan and you write a blog post that goes viral, or you get a media mention that drives lots of visitors to your website, the website may not be able to handle all of the simultaneous visitors resulting in a website outage. This is one of the worst responses your can have to an influx of new website visitors.
  • Support. Should you encounter a problem or just need help getting your website up and running or updated, you want to know that there is a support team that is just a phone call away.
  • Scalability. Assuming you are running a growing business, you will eventually need to upgrade your hosting from an entry level plan (usually shared hosting) to a virtual private server (VPS) and eventually a dedicated server. If you are with a WordPress web hosting company that can make the upgrade process seamless, that will minimize and downtime.

I have been building websites since 1999 and I have also spent a lot of time working on the hosting side of the business. In fact, at one time I worked for one of the largest web hosting companies in the US, where we hosted some of the largest Fortune 500 websites in the world including American Airlines, Saks Fifth Avenue, Harley Davidson, and more. It was a fun time and I learned a lot.  Sadly, I was working working on the web hosting data center for AA.com on 9/11 and it had a big impact on our hosting network. Thankfully, we were prepared.

Because I know hosting is so critical, I keep up with who is doing good work in the field of WordPress web hosting and who is not.  This puts me in a tough position because I don’t want to name companies that I have had bad experiences, and I also don’t want to imply that because a company isn’t one of the two I recommend, its bad.

That being said, I only have two recommendations for WordPress web hosting in 2019.

WP Engine
My first WordPress web hosting recommendation for 2019 is WP Engine. In my opinion (and based on my experience with them), they are at the top of the game when it comes to WordPress web hosting. They take security seriously and address all of the other factors I mentioned above. For the small business owner who is just starting out, they often find WP Engine a bit more costly than they expect as their service starts at $35 per month (it’s worth every penny). The other factor that stops small businesses from using WP Engine is the fact that they don’t host email. I’m ok with that as Google Apps for Business is a great service for email and it’s pretty affordable.

There are a few instances when I absolutely recommend WP Engine and those are:

  • High volume web sites – This includes high traffic, lots of ecommerce transactions, or active forums.
  • Sites that have had security issues in the past.

Added bonuses with WP Engine are:

  • Their “One Touch Restore” feature where your website is backed up daily and if you have any problems, you can restore the website just by simply clicking a button.
  • Free SSL certificate.
  • Migration tool that makes transferring your site to WP Engine ridiculously simple.

SiteGround Hosting
My second WordPress web hosting recommendation for 2019 is SiteGround Hosting. In a case where a small company has limited financial resources and / or lots of email users, it might make sense to start with a less costly web hosting solution that incorporates email and web hosting for less than $100 per year. SiteGround Hosting offers a solid, reliable service at a more affordable entry-level price (less than $100 per year for shared hosting.)

As the business grows, you can scale up and move from shared hosting to a cloud server and ultimately a dedicated server if needed.

I also like the fact that SiteGroud offers:

  • A Migration Tool. Similar to WP Engine, SiteGround offers a migration tool that makes moving a site over to SiteGround very simple.
  • Free SSL Certificate. This was one of the reasons I moved some of our smaller sites to SiteGround because an SSL certificate is a must have even for non eCommerce sites.
  • Telephone support. Some people like to chat and some people don’t mind sending an email and waiting for a response. I like to be able to get on the phone and talk to someone.

As I said prior, I don’t recommend most of the popular companies out there. If you do some research you will find that many are owned by a big conglomerate that buys up hosting companies. This is not a random bias, but based on personal experience with hosting multiple websites, both for my company and my clients.

I’d love to hear your experiences, and most of all, I hope this information is helpful to you in finding a solid web host.

As a disclosure, we are compensated by the hosting companies we recommend, however we only recommend them because we trust them (you can’t buy our recommendations.)

I don’t have neither time, nor money to test different hosts, so I did some research too) I would highly recommend InMotion; great technical support, intuitive interface, fast responses and so much more!
